The Minimalist’s Guide to ‘No-Makeup’ Makeup

While we love getting our makeup done for special occasions, sometimes it’s just nice to wear none at all. While it’s not always possible to wear zero beauty products - blemishes, covering up your zombie bags, etc - there are ways around it. This is where the ‘no-makeup’ makeup look comes in.

What exactly do we mean by that? It means that barely there look that conceals imperfections and gives you that ‘lit from within’ look. For us, it’s the ultimate look - and the one that gets people asking what you’ve been doing differently to achieve your newfound glow.

For those of you who are used to a full face of makeup, why not give this a go? Even just to give your skin a break. For those who are just looking for a natural glow then read on for some hot tips.

Keep it moist

A great moisturiser is always a good starting point of any makeup routine. A good one should help prime your face for the rest of the products. If you’re on the go in the morning or looking for a lighter morning alternative to your night cream, why not try a product like the Pixi Hydrating Milk Mist. Pumped full of hyaluronic acid, a couple of sprays of the face will provide an instant surge of hydration.

Ace of base

For this natural no-makeup vibe, we’re going to suggest a good BB Cream to be your base. Bb cream - or beauty balm - bottles all the best skincare benefits like hydration, correction and sun protection and gives it to us in one ultimate product. We love the Napoleon Perdis Auto Pilot BBB Cream, which takes it to the next level with skin-perfecting properties, anti-aging moisturiser and most importantly, SPF30. For a truly second skin look, we’d recommend applying with your fingers rather than a brush.

It’s all in the brows, baby

For those of you blessed with luscious, full brows, please embrace it. Instead of filling them in further, use the Elf Clear Brow & Lash mascara to brush upwards and outwards to enhance them. If you absolutely can’t go a day without filling them in, we’d recommend the Eye of Horus Brow Define to create some shape and fill in the gaps, then putting some of the gel on as well. We don’t know about you but good brows is key to a good beauty look.

The windows to your soul

When it comes to your eyes in the ‘no-makeup’ makeup look, it’s super simple. Go for a cream eye shadow like the Napoleon Perdis Utopia Metallic Cream - they’re easy to apply and pay off in colour. Then all you need a slick of a really good mascara to really open up your eyes. Remember how we talked about the ultimate mascara? Well that one’s a good option and so it the ModelCo Fatlash Volumising Mascara.

A natural flush

When it comes to your lips and cheeks, aim for the ‘you...but better’ look. Again, this is where you go for the cream formulas. So with the blush, choose a soft colour to imitate your natural blush - the Youngblood Luminous Creme Blush in Pink Cashmere is a pretty close match - and use your fingertips to apply and blend into the apples of your cheeks. With your lip, use the Inc.redible Shot Lip Quencher in Just Be Me for a soft pink tint.

Finish off the whole look with another spritz of the Pixi Mist and you’re good to go.
